Acker, the world’s leading fine and rare wine auction house and America’s oldest wine shop, is honored to announce a season-long partnership with Citymeals on Wheels, a long-respected New York-based nonprofit organization whose mission since 1981 has been delivering weekend, holiday, and emergency meals to one of the city’s most vulnerable populations, the homebound elderly.  Committed to donating 10,000 meals through its auction and retail platforms, Acker will kick off the partnership by welcoming renowned chef and Co-President of the Citymeals Board of Trustees, Daniel Boulud, for an online cooking demonstration on Thursday, September 10th at 5pm ET.  The evening’s menu will be paired with wines from the Citymeals collection, all available in Acker’s e-store, with a meal donated for each bottle purchased. The streamed event kicks off the offering of the Citymeals collection in the September 10th & 11th New York auction on Acker’s web-based bidding platform.

In addition to multiple offerings through its live and web auctions, Acker will also offer exciting retail promotions throughout the season, featuring thousands of bottles on behalf of Citymeals, with a meal donated to the charity for each bottle purchased.

It is Acker’s honor to support Citymeals on Wheels, which, in a typical year, delivers over 2 million meals to more than 18,000 New Yorkers. Resolute in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization has exceeded its regular efforts, delivering more than a million meals since March alone and serving an additional 34,000 older New Yorkers facing food insecurity. As the city’s senior centers closed and the risk of leaving home amidst the health crisis became too great, Citymeals became an essential source of food and companionship for this vulnerable population.

“It is a true privilege to partner with Citymeals on Wheels, with the goal of funding 10,000 meals for older New Yorkers in need,” said Acker Chairman, John Kapon.  “Now more than ever, seniors need assistance, and we cannot forget that. While I always look forward to beginning the auction season, this one is all the more special with this important goal in mind. We are all particularly excited to host this virtual event with Chef Daniel Boulud, and while my skills in the kitchen are not quite what they are behind the podium, I cannot wait to soak up some knowledge from Chef Daniel and cook up another great auction season with added purpose behind it.”
