Chicago, IL (June 19, 2020) — After over a year of product development, One Off Hospitality is pleased to announce the debut Big Star’s iconic margarita for retail purchase at several premier local retailers. Known for its bevy of tacos, crushable beer, great whiskey and high energy patio, Big Star is a notorious Chicago destination at both its Wicker Park and Wrigleyville locations. With the novel launch of these canned cocktails just in time for summer—locals can now bring the quintessential Big Star experience to their own backyard barbeques and porch hangouts.

CANNED MARGS | Big Star Margaritas will hit shelves at local Foxtrot Markets, Binny’s and select Whole Foods throughout Chicago starting this week (6/23). The prepackaged drinks come available in convenient 4-packs of 12 oz. cans for $19.99. Boasting a 12% ABV and a splendid citrus bite, each can is equivalent to two full margaritas. A portion of proceeds from each sale will be benefitting Support Staff—a Chicago non-profit focused on mental health support for hospitality professionals throughout the COVID-19 health pandemic.

“Over the years, we’ve been asked to figure out a way to package up the best of Big Star to-go, and we’ve always been up for the challenge,” says One Off Partner Terry Alexander. “First, we introduced a takeout/delivery window for food, then we launched our own record label to bring that incredible vibe to our guests, and now with the new canned margaritas, we’re proud to introduce that final missing Big Star link for Chicagoans to enjoy as they please.”

BIG STAR x ROBBY HAYNES | For product development, Big Star’s Beverage Director Laurent Lebec worked alongside Robby Haynes. Robby got his start in the industry working at One Off Hospitality’s James Beard award-winning cocktail bar, The Violet Hour, and subsequently help create Letherbee Distillers’ Bësk in 2013 and Apologue’s line of liqueurs in 2017.  The pair’s result takes the ready-to-drink cocktail category to the next level with the release of Big Star’s Canned Margarita.

“The Big Star Margarita is one of Chicago’s most iconic cocktails,” says Haynes. “Laurent and I spent countless hours translating the fresh taste of the Big Star Margarita to a convenient can format that captures the vibe of the original. It’s been a thrill to collaborate to make this patio pleaser available for Chicagoans to enjoy wherever they want – responsibly of course.”
