Millbrook, NY (September 6, 2019) – Millbrook Vineyards & Winery, an award-winning wine producer established in Millbrook in 1982, has become the only Hudson Valley winery to ever be nominated for the Wine Star Award in the “American Winery of the Year” category. The nominations for the 2019 awards were announced this week by Wine Enthusiast magazine. Other wineries in this category are located in CA, WA, OR, and NM.

Each year, the editors at Wine Enthusiast nominate a small group of businesses and individuals from the alcohol beverage industry for the annual Wine Star Awards. The awards honor and recognize those that have contributed to the success of wine in the United States. Nominees must display attributes of energy, courage, groundbreaking vision, and business acumen.

“This nomination thrills us not only because it recognizes our achievements here at Millbrook Winery, but also because it puts the Hudson Valley on a level playing field with the best wineries in the country,” said David Bova, general manager and VP of Millbrook Vineyards & Winery. “We’re carrying the region’s torch by exemplifying the professional viability of our local wine industry.”

Founded on a former 130-acre dairy farm by John S. Dyson, David Bova, and Winemaker John Graziano; Millbrook Vineyards & Winery produced their first vintage in 1985 and now produces over 15,000 cases of high-quality wines that includes Cabernet Franc – the Hudson Valley’s signature grape – as well as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Tocai Friulano. Guests are welcome for daily tastings in the property’s restored Dutch barn, and guided winery tours are offered on weekends. The beautiful and picturesque 35-acre vineyard and winery welcomes approximately 25,000 visitors a year for tours and tastings.

The Wine Star Award winners will be announced on winemag.com on Thursday, October 31, 2019. They will also appear in the special “Best of Year” December 31 issue of Wine Enthusiast magazine, and will be honored at the 20th anniversary gala in San Francisco on January 27, 2020.
