On the last weekend in April, The Stags Leap District Winegrowers welcomed guests for its annual Vineyard to Vintner weekend affair, marking 30 years since the region’s designation as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 1989. Attendeeds enjoyed library selections, decadent meals, in-depth education and vintner access, exploring the region with the winemakers and principals who craft the wines from vineyard to bottle.

The weekend began with an unforgettable evening of world-class library wines and chef-driven menus celebrating three decades of winemaking excellence. The intimate dinners at Cliff Lede Vineyards, Clos Du Val, Odette Estate, Quixote Winery and Taylor Family Vineyards were co-hosted by several vintners, offering a breadth of world-class wines.

A Saturday morning immersive series, Digging Deeper: Seminars, Vineyard Walks and Tastings, dove into the area’s famed history, terroir, and the people who make the wines so inimitable. Programs were hosted at at Chimney Rock Winery, Pine Ridge Vineyards, Regusci Winery, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars or Steltzner Vineyards.

That afternoon, a 30th Anniversary Luncheon offered a rare opportunity to meet the winemakers, principals, and owners of 17 District vintners. Held on the grounds of the historic Stags’ Leap Winery, guests enjoyed a champagne toast and roving gourmet lunch with current release and library wines, as well as a sneak peek tasting of the 2016 Stags Leap District Appellation Collection, to be released in October 2019.

The weekend concluded with Savor SLD, a day of tastings from among 12 SLD properties. This year, Stags Leap District Winegrowers will donate $50 of each ticket purchased (tax deductible) to the University of California at Davis Nathan Fay Graduate Fellowship Fund. The endowment was established by the Stags Leap District Winegrowers in 2000 as a tribute to Nathan Fay, who planted the first Cabernet vines in the region in 1961.
