Houston, Oct. 23, 2019 – City Orchard, Houston’s newest urban cidery, announced today that Danny Frounfelkner has been named General Manager as it prepares for its grand opening this fall.

“With his passion for wine and cider making, coupled with his experience as beverage director for notable Houston restaurants, Danny is the perfect fit to manage City Orchard,” says Patrick Kwiatkowski, co-owner of City Orchard. “I look forward to his contributions and what he’ll bring to the table as we launch the first-of-its-kind drinking establishment in the Bayou City.”

A native of Northern California, Danny grew up next to Napa Valley and quickly developed an affinity for vineyards and apple orchards. He eventually made his way to Houston to take on the position of Beverage Director for Royal Oaks Country Club, where he specialized in creating, planning, and executing on wine-centered events. Soon after, he joined Goody Goody Liquor as a Wine Consultant and then moved up quickly to open Goody Goody Liquor’s flagship retail store in Houston as Store Manager.  Danny also was the Beverage Director at Tiny Boxwoods and Tiny No. 5 as well as with Adair Concepts (Eloise Nichols Grill & Liquors, Adair Kitchen and Bebidas). Most recently, he served as Wine Director for Agricole Hospitality’s three EaDo concepts (Indianola, Miss Carousel, and Vinny’s).

“My natural admiration and joy for wine and cider is infectious, and my hunger to study, learn and share all there is to know about wine and cider cultivation and production, to pairing and especially enjoying it is as strong as a vine and deep as a root,” says Danny. “City Orchard’s philosophy about cider is homegrown, managing the process from tree to glass and embodying the country’s best orchards in a bottle.  It’s an all-encompassing experience that translates and transplants our prized piece of nature and earth deliciously into your glass.  We are very passionate about cider, beer, wine and hospitality, and look forward to meeting and toasting with our fellow Houstonians who enjoy all things beverage, especially cider!”

City Orchard is slated to open in October and is an urban cidery located in the heart of Houston’s developing arts district, at 1201 Oliver Street. It will produce its hard cider in Houston using hand-selected apples from orchards in the Great Lakes region and transported to Houston.

About City Orchard

City Orchard is an urban cidery located in the heart of Houston. The creation of local cidermakers, Mat Smith and Patrick Kwiatkowski, City Orchard produces hard ciders in Houston from the highest quality, personally selected cider apples from the Great Lakes Region. Originally from New York and Michigan, since 2000 Smith and Kwiatkowski have called Houston their adopted home.  Mat’s family orchards are on the shores of Sodus Bay on Lake Ontario and City Orchard’s fruit is currently sourced from the Smith Brothers Farm or nearby friends and neighboring farms.  City Orchard hand selects apples, brings them down to Houston and creates the wonderful cider that Great Lakes apples make.
