November 2019, (Rutherford, Napa Valley, Calif.) – Peju Winery is releasing a collectible boxed collection of five red wines. The wines’ labels reproduce the winery’s enormous antique stained glass window, divided into five segments, so that the set, displayed together, replicates the window. The five wines, all from the 2017 vintage, offer a horizontal tasting of Peju’s red Bordeaux varietals and are available only as this boxed set.

The Stained Glass Collection consists of one bottle each of the 2017 Persephone Cabernet Sauvignon, 2017 Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon, 2017 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon, 2017 Persephone Cabernet Franc and 2017 Persephone Proprietary Red Wine. The Collection is presented in a glass-fronted Peju-logo’d wooden display case and retails for $490. Only 1,000 sets were made.

“These wines offer a wine aficionado a rare opportunity to taste the fruit from three of our estate vineyards,” explains winemaker Sara Fowler.

The Collection was inspired by the Art Nouveau-style stained-glass window that is the centerpiece of Peju’s iconic, 50-foot Tower tasting room. Measuring 10.5’ high by 20’ wide, the window was made in Germany in 1906. The magnificent scene depicts three of the Greek muses playing ancient musical instruments in a beautiful garden setting. Winery founder Tony Peju acquired the piece at an art auction in 1993 and in 2003 it was installed as the centerpiece of the winery’s Tower. “Although I didn’t even have a winery at the time, when I bought the window, I knew it would play an important role as the centerpiece of our Tower Tasting Room,” explains winery founder Tony Peju. “When you stand in front of the window, with the sun streaming through, the beauty of the images and the elaborate workmanship make it a very special experience,” he adds.

NEW TASTING
Coordinated with the release of these wines, the winery is launching The Stained Glass Collection Tasting. It is a seated tasting which combines a tasting of the new Stained Glass Collection set of wines with a charcuterie and cheese presentation. The cost is $100/person. Available by appointment only, it is offered Wednesday through Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and takes place seated in front of the stained glass window in the elegant Tower Tasting Room. This Tasting is presented by one of the winery’s wine educators, who shares not only the background of the wines and these one-of-a-kind labels, but also guides guests through an exploration of the terroir of the Rutherford appellation and the Peju family’s three decades of history in the Napa Valley.
