The Lakes Distillery has released the next chapter of its whisky story, The One Port Cask Finished fine blended whisky.
Unveiling an evolved brand with its brand-new bottle design, at 46.6% ABV, The One Port Cask Finished follows in the footsteps of The One’s award-winning Sherry Expression and is a singular blend of The Lakes Single Malt and select Scotch malt and grain whiskies from Speyside and Islay. The One Sherry was named ‘Best English Blended Limited Release Whisky (No Age Statement)’ at the 2019 World Whiskies Awards.
The new blend has been finished for one year in first-fill Tawny Port hogsheads from Portugal, personally selected by The Lakes’ whiskymaker Dhavall Gandhi. Non-chill filtered for a richer mouthfeel and fuller flavour, it has been bottled with only the natural colours derived from the oak casks.
Dhavall Gandhi commented, “We know each of our whisky casks intimately, how the flavours are evolving and then how they then can be blended with others to complement, enhance, deepen, broaden, or contrast. This is how we are able to handpick Scotch malt and grain whiskies that best compliment the complexities and flavour of The Lakes Single Malt when married together in a port cask.
“The result is full-bodied and smoky with ripe cherries and plums on the nose, hints of stone fruits, nutmeg and black pepper on the palate, leading to a long, warming finish. It is a fine blended whisky to enjoy as you please, or with a few drops of water to release even more of the flavour depths.

October 2019 will see a fourth release in The One blended whisky collection with the re-launch of The One Signature Blend.
