The first premium tequila from Moēt Hennessy takes home the impressive achievement of Silver, marking the brand’s 9th award of excellence within the 2019 competitive Spirit circuit

(JULY 1, 2019 NEW YORK, NY) – Volcan de mi Tierra has accepted the silver medal of excellence in the Tequila category at the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) 2019. Such an accolade from the ISC is regarded as the most respected and sought after in the drinks industry due to the stringent nature of the judging process.

Volcan de mi Tierra passed a scrupulous blind tasting by a world renowned expert panel of specialist judges to beat strong competition to be awarded the prestigious accolade of Silver. The quality of the brand’s craftsmanship and liquid is reflected in this superb result.

Volcan de mi Tierra, which takes its name from the pre-historic volcano that shaped the landscape from which tequila region’s expansive agave fields now grow, is a celebration of provenance and legacy. The hand-crafted
spirit pays homage to Jalisco’s unique terroir by blending 100% blue agave from the low- and high-lands – an industry first. Volcan’s distillery sits at the base of the volcano and is home to a distinctive distilling process that combines history and tradition. The Blanco expression delivers an austere and herbaceous flavor spectrum from the lowlands agave, blended with finesse, citrus and floral notes of the highlands. It can be enjoyed mixed into cocktails or served neat.

Awards Organiser Justin Smith said: “This ISC grows every year, with producers entering a diverse mix of spirits from across the globe who are looking to benchmark their spirit at the very highest level.”

“We are incredibly thankful to the support and acknowledgement that Volcan de mi Tierra has received from the international spirits community – what a start to 2019 it has been,” said Volcan di mi Tierra’s President and CEO, Trent Fraser. “A tremendous amount of time and support was spent developing the Blanco expression. We experimented with yeast variations, agave selection and multiple cask maturations before settling on the final blend. We made some bold choices and are thrilled to be considered amongst the best in class. We look forward to much more room for growth in this explosive and exciting category.”

Now in its 24th year, the ISC is the premier event in promoting outstanding quality spirits from across the globe. The competition is founded on a rigorous and independent judging process, which serves to encourage the high calibre of spirits and designs entered into the competition each year. Receiving more than 1,700 entries from nearly 70 countries worldwide, the ISC is a truly global competition. It is supported by many of the world’s leading spirits producers as the international standard for quality and excellence.

For the Tasting Awards, a highly controlled operation is held over fifteen days of intense blind tastings by panels of more than 50 respected and experienced industry professionals. Samples are delivered to the judging area in
flights of numbered tasting glasses to ensure the accuracy of the blind tasting. Each judge assesses products according to their age, region and variety which is then determined by the entrant and verified by the chairman.
Such a precise judging process has provided the basis of the strong reputation the ISC has established for rewarding quality and celebrating excellence.
Full results have been released and published on the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) website, www.internationalspiritschallenge.com with the full list of medal winners to be published in the ISC annual results magazine in August.
