BARDSTOWN, Ky. (March 26, 2021) – Bardstown Bourbon Company will release the second iteration of its collaboration with The Prisoner Wine Company on April 1, 2021.  The distillery’s latest release is a 100-proof, ten-year old Tennessee bourbon aged for 18 months in French Oak red wine barrels used to age the wine company’s flagship product, The Prisoner Red Blend.

“The same attributes that made the initial release so special are back. This is a very complex spirit, with a welcoming bouquet of dark fruit aromatics, honey, vanilla, and baking spices” shares Steve Nally, Master Distiller at Bardstown Bourbon Company. “Hints of the original premium grape blend take the lead on the palate with a touch of sweetness, turning to a ringing, balanced finish.”

Bardstown Bourbon Company’s collaboration with The Prisoner Wine Company is the latest release in the distillery’s award-winning Collaborative Series, a line of innovative bourbons, finished in barrels from globally recognized distilleries, winemakers and brewers. The first collaboration between the brands made its debut in December 2019.

“The collaborative expressions we have released to date have all been highly coveted, and very limited, so we’re excited to give consumers another taste of this one,” said Bardstown Bourbon Company Sr. Vice President of Sales and Marketing Herb Heneman. “Only 3,000 cases of this exclusive release will be produced overall and thus on an allocated basis for distribution.”

Recognized as one of the most innovative wine brands on the market, The Prisoner Wine Company led the resurgence of California luxury red blends and quickly achieved cult status upon its first release in 2000.

“At The Prisoner Wine Company, we strive to continue our irreverent approach to winemaking and to evolve our role in the industry in unexpected ways, and our partnership with Bardstown Bourbon, whose red wine barrel-aged embodies our brand’s sense of daring,” says Chrissy Wittmann, Director of Winemaking. “It’s been exciting to use barrels from our namesake wine in such a dynamic way and to build upon the success of this first release with this new collaborative bourbon.”

Bardstown Bourbon Company & The Prisoner Wine Company Collaboration will be available for an MSRP of $124.00/750 mL within all of Bardstown Bourbon Company’s current markets this April, including KY, IN, TN, IL, OH, CA, D.C., MD, DE, CO, NV, TX, NY, GA and MI.

About The Prisoner Wine Company:

When The Prisoner was released two decades ago as a complex blend of some of California’s best and most unusual grape varieties, it swiftly and permanently changed the American perception of what a red blend wine could be. The Prisoner Wine Company grew to include a range of rule-bending blends with provocative label designs, and the portfolio has been recognized by consumers and critics alike as one of the most innovative wine brands in the market, leading the resurgence of California luxury red blends and earning “cult” wine status. Today, Director of Winemaking Chrissy Wittmann and her team work with over 100 growers in northern California, bringing together exceptional fruit to produce a family of bold and intriguing wines. In 2020, The Prisoner Wine Company launched a new, luxury wine brand called Unshackled, comprised of three California-appellated wines including a Rosé (SRP $27), Red Blend (SRP $30) and Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP $30). The Prisoner Wine Company is located on Highway 29 in Napa Valley and welcomes visitors year-round for unexpected, immersive experiences.
