A dramatic package featuring only a hand-drawn cross hair symbol on the front is the hallmark of a bold Napa Valley Cabernet focused Red Blend called DeadEye from Provenance Vineyards. The new wine, now available nationwide, debuts at a suggested retail price of $50.
The crosshair symbol has actually been a part of the Provenance logo since the winery was launched with the 1999 vintage, appearing over the letter O in the Provenance name. Symbolizing a dedication to precision farming, Provenance winemaker David Galzignato says it shows a pinpoint focus on superior winegrowing, in a richer style designed to appeal to consumers of popular luxury red blends. While predominately Cabernet Sauvignon, the blend includes Petite Sirah, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Galzignato says the wine is “expressive and opulent, deliciously round and plush, dominated by ripe dark fruits.”
Select lots from key Napa growing districts including St. Helena (45%), Howell Mountain (23%), Oakville (12%), Spring Mountain (12%) with contributions from Atlas Peak and Sonoma’s Alexander Valley form the blend, crafted in a rich, mouth-filling style popular in contemporary Napa red blends ranging from $65-85. Alcohol is 15.5%.
Labels in this super luxury $25+ category are led by irreverent, strikingly graphic labels, such as Papillion from Orin Swift, The Prisoner or Gravity from Mount Peak.
While the DeadEye front label is simply the cross-hair symbol, the back label identifies the wine as vinted and produced by Provenance.
