SOLERA STANDOUT COCKTAIL COMPETITION
The Final Four Bartenders Will Travel to Spain to Compete for Grand Prize
MIAMI – (April 30, 2018) – The House of Lustau, one of the most-awarded sherry wine producers in the world, launches the third annual Solera Standout cocktail competition, inviting bartenders and aspiring mixologists to create a unique recipe for a chance to win a trip to Spain and a cash grand prize. The Spanish brand, which has been producing high quality sherries, brandies and vermouths for more than 120 years, is accepting entries that use at least two products from Lustau’s exclusive collection from now until June 30, 2018.

How it works:
Open to mixologists in the United States, participants can only submit one entry and they must use at least two products from The House of Lustau as ingredients in their original recipe, which include Sherry, Brandy de Jerez, Vermouth or Vinegar. Total ingredients shall not exceed six (6) oz. or seven (7) ingredients including drops, dashes and rinses. All recipes must include a full list of ingredients and preparation/mixing instructions, as well as an image of the cocktail.
A blind judging panel will review and score all entries. Once the judges have chosen the top 32 cocktails based on a point-scoring system, those cocktails will be mixed and judged by a secondary panel of experts.
The top 32 cocktails will move on to the first semifinal round in early July 2018 in San Francisco, CA, where each recipe will be prepared and voted on by attending industry experts and special guests, narrowing down the list to 16 participants. The second round of semifinals, which will take place in Denver, CO late July 2018, will narrow the list down further to eight finalists. The last semifinal round will take place in Washington D.C. in August 2018, where industry experts and special guests will narrow down the list to the top four recipes.
The House of Lustau will invite the four finalists to Madrid and the Sherry Area in Spain where they will experience the world of Lustau and compete for the title of U.S. Solera Standout 2018 Lustau Top Bartender. In addition to presenting their unique cocktail, they will also be challenged with creating a new cocktail using a Lustau product that will be presented to them just prior to the competition, then mixed with their selection of four other ingredients from a list curated by local industry professionals and bartenders. The newly crafted cocktail should reflect American culture.
