St. Helena, CA, November 5, 2020 – Organic canned wine company, Sans Wine Co., announced today that they will now offer a 750mL bottled version of their Carignan. While Sans Wine Co. has always focused on delivering high-quality, light, refreshing, natural wines in convenient and affordable packaging (their wine-in-can format opened up new opportunities for wine drinkers to enjoy their favorite beverage in all different settings), this new offering marks a significant milestone for the company, as it is their first ever bottled wine, and a unique one at that. Many wine drinkers have never heard of Carignan, despite the fact that it was the third most widely planted grape variety in California, in addition to being the single most common vine variety planted in the world’s most important wine producer – France – until it was overtaken by Merlot at the end of the 20th century.

Sans Wine Co.’s Carignan (12.5% ABV) is made from 100% Carignan from old vine, dry farmed, organic vineyards in the Mendocino AVA of Northern California. The grapes were harvested, cluster sorted and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel, undergoing a carbonic fermentation with no manipulation, and no additions. Sans Wine Co.’s Carignan features aromas of plum, Provençal herbs, violet and rhubarb, with flavors of juicy raspberries, cranberries, blueberries, and notes of cinnamon. This wine has smooth tannins and a dry finish and should be chilled before drinking.

Sans Wine Co., founded in 2015 by husband and wife team, Jake Stover – the company’s farmer and winemaker – and Gina Schober – who heads up sales, distribution, and marketing – is the only canned wine producer making all single vineyard wines, from Napa, Lake, and Mendocino American Viticultural Areas (AVA’s). They were the first canned wine producers to make all single vineyard, variety specific, vintage dated wines in the Napa Valley.

“We realized that, while we are delivering unbelievable quality in the canned format, there are also situations where our customers might like to have a bottled option,” says co-founder and winemaker Jake Stover. “In an effort to expand our presence and augment our approach to introducing well-made natural wines to inquiring wine drinkers, we thought it best to diversify our packaging. We have never wanted to replace bottles but wanted to offer portable and approachable packaging for a time and a place where the bottle isn’t best. Now we have the ability to capture both instances for the consumer that loves what we do.”

Sans. Wine Co.’s bottles of Carignan are currently available in California, Texas, Georgia, Oregon, Washington, Florida, Louisiana, Tennessee and Maine via select retailers. Their premium canned wines are available at https://sans-wine-co.myshopify.com as well as in various stores across the country.
