San Francisco-based Geijer Spirits wins top honor at the prestigious American Distilling Institute spirits competition for its “California Falernum”
San Francisco, CA, April 8, 2020 —Geijer Spirits has added to its growing list of accolades by taking home the highest level of award at the 2020 ADI Judging of Craft Spirits competition. After evaluation by a tasting panel of some of the world’s top craft spirits experts, Geijer Spirits “California Falernum” (www.geijerspirits.com) received a Gold Medal, as well as recognition for “Best of Category” and “Best of Class – Liqueur.”
The Best of Class honor is the highest level of recognition awarded by ADI.
Geijer Spirits, in partnership with Coastal Spirits (ginfarallon.com), starts by crafting a Jamaican-style rum from scratch, which is then carefully blended with select spices and citrus ingredients. This proprietary spice blend includes allspice, almond, ginger and lime. Together with the aromatic and flavorful rum base, the result is a spicy, tropical flavor trip that honors Falernum’s Caribbean origins while adding a California craft component to the spirit.
“It’s an amazing honor to be recognized at this level, and by a panel of craft spirit experts in a competition that specifically focuses on craft spirits,” says founder Martin Geijer. “It is a true honor to not only take home Gold from a competition of this importance, but to also win Best of Category and Best of Class is extremely humbling.”
By winning the Liqueur category against all other liqueur entries, California Falernum joins an exclusive group of only 24 Best of Class award winners out of nearly 1,000 brands entered. The Best of Class award is described as follows on the ADI website (distilling.com):
“Once all of the spirits for a particular class have been judged, the ‘Best of Class’ designation will be awarded for both US and International spirits in a particular spirit class, such as Best US Whiskey, Best International Brandy etc. To be eligible for a Best of Class award, a spirit must have been awarded BOTH a gold or double-gold medal AND ‘Best of Category.’”
California Falernum recently joined Geijer Spirits’ award-winning “California Fernet” in national distribution through Vision Wine and Spirits.
