Terlato Wines’ Dueling Pistols Taps into the Power of Podcasts

Brand Immerses Drinkers into Its Product Story While Demystifying a Duel

New York, NY – March 6, 2020 – The Terlato Wine Group releases their Dueling Pistols Podcast today, available on all major podcast mobile applications via Libsyn, a podcast distributor.  Terlato’s inaugural vintages of the  Dueling Pistols brand, comprised of two red blends from the Paso Robles and Dry Creek Valley regions of California, carries a narrative that immerses the listener into a tension-filled, fictional origin story. The story’s characters, some whom kick off the series with a gunshot that leads them to the mining town of Hangtown, CA., are the focus of the podcast’s narrative surrounding a head to head shoot-out duel over leadership of the town. Dueling pistols is a story of power, relationships, love, and money that pins several main characters against one another, including Eli Guyot, a lawyer from Wisconsin and Edward O’Rourke, a con-man from Pennsylvania.

Terlato’s first foray into a content-led product launch, Dueling Pistols Podcast, was inspired with its target consumer top of mind . “Leveraging a content-first launch concept was designed to consider Dueling Pistols’ drinkers. The brand’s Gen X target audience longs for content immersion, so creating a story behind the brand has been critical,” said Tony Terlato, Jr., the National Director of On-premise Accounts at Terlato Wines.

Each episode of the Dueling Pistols podcast takes listeners down the dirt trodden roads of the old west to discover the stories behind these brave pioneers’ journeys and ambitions. The ten-episode series was written in partnership with creative storytelling company, Round Table Companies (RTC), produced by Podfly, a podcast production company, and distributed through Libsyn, a podcast hosting and distribution company.  Each 15 to 30-minute episode is narrated by the character Wesley Clapp—the son of a preacher —and features an introduction, closing credits, and audio commercial promoting the wines voiced by Tony Terlato Jr.  The brands key production goal was to create a nostalgic listening experience for consumers, reminiscent of the Golden Era of American radio during the 20th century.

“Working on the Dueling Pistols podcast was a new outlet for us to bring a company’s core values, creativity and essence to life,” said Corey Blake, the founder and CEO of Round Table Companies. “Through our interviews with key Terlato employees, we immediately knew this story would revolve around heroism, intensity, and loyalty; consistent themes in the lives and work of everyone interviewed.”

“We want to drive affinity with our Dueling Pistols fans,” said Bill Terlato, Chief Executive Officer at Terlato Wines. “Creating a cross-platform content approach is part of that strategy. The Dueling Pistols brand team partnered with the Round Table team to help us bring a digest of character stories to life.  The stories help pull consumers in and invite them to interact with the story as it continues to evolve past the first vintage with future podcast seasons to come.  Whether they do that over a glass of wine or cup of coffee is for them to decide, but creating immersive experiences that connect them to the Dueling Pistols story continues to be our number one goal.”
